About us

The Family Research Centre is situated in the University of Reading's historic London Road Campus, next door to the Museum of English Rural Life. It is run by Berkshire Family History Society CIO, a registered charity, who works to meet the needs of those researching their ancestry across the UK and overseas – as well as those looking for former relatives in historic Berkshire.

The Centre provides the area’s best family history research facility and it’s free to visit. It also hosts a lively activities and events programme: talks, walks, visits, courses and workshops which deliver updated perspectives and help place research findings into better historical context.
