A visit and walk run by BIAG. Meet outside Bedwyn Station at 10:30 following the departure of the 09:33 from Reading that arrives Newbury at 09:54 to change train and pick-up the 10:11 service to Bedwyn that arrives at 10:30 to walk down to the start at Bedwyn Wharf Bridge (95).
We will then walk along the towpath from Bedwyn Wharf Bridge (95) to Freewarren Bridge (101) (a.k.a. Crofton Bridge) where will pick up the Canal Feeder before visiting the Crofton Beam Engines. Someone should be available to offer a short introductory talk on the site and give a talk on the mechatronics work. The engines will be in steam during the day with a possible optional evening steaming should you wish to stay longer. A picnic lunch will be taken in the grounds before our return walk to Bedwyn station to catch our 16:41 return train from Bedwyn to Reading.
Walking boots are advised, and a picnic lunch is suggested although there will be a pop-up café which sells light refreshments. The admission fee (good for a year) will be £12.50, payment on day.
