Natural Dyeing Course

14th, 15th June, 5th, 6th July, 13th, 14th September, 11th, 12th October 2025

This is an in depth course that allows deep exploration of natural dyes over 4 weekends.

The course will take you on a journey through a rainbow of natural dyes on wool. Optional extra 1 or 2 days (28th, 29th June) focusing on preparation and mordanting of plant based fibres (see other workshop listings).

We will be exploring a colour a day and using sheep wool from our own flock of Shetland x Gotland sheep. The Outside have been dyeing with plants for more than 15 years. The course facilitators are Romilly and Flow. Romilly has completed a masters in Anglo-Saxon dyeing in Great Britain which provides an extensive understanding of dyeing through history and is underpinned by her knowledge of plants. Flow has a thorough understanding of mordants and their applications and has run multiple mordanting trials over the years and is skilled in wool processing.

Please see the flyers below for further information on each day.
