Studio projects by Sara Wong and Leung Chi Wo
Sat & Sun, 14-29 Dec
Hong Kong artist duo Leung Chi Wo + Sara Wong pursue individual practices alongside their collaborative works, such as Museum of the Lost and City Cookie. Splitting their time between Hong Kong and London, they explore how temporal and spatial distances shape both their art and their lives.
Wong carves emotions and sentiments into paper sculptures, capturing the psychological and physical distance between the two cities. She uses Hong Kong bus routes, whose combined distances equal that between Hong Kong and London as metaphors, evoking a nuanced narrative of movement, displacement, and connection.
Leung’s ongoing project, Date Series, began in 2017. He examines newspapers from 50 years ago, identifying sites of violence to visit on the exact anniversary of the event. His research intertwines personal incidents with grand narratives and is presented through drawings, photographs, and videos.
Sara Wong (b. 1968) and Leung Chi Wo (b. 1968) have collaborated since 1992 and co-founded Hong Kong’s Para Site art centre in 1996. They have participated in biennales and exhibitions worldwide, including Venice, Shanghai, and São Paulo, and held residencies at the Delfina Foundation, London (2021), and Emily Harvey Foundation, Venice (2023).
