Land, lives and nature in England's Upland Commons
Over one third of England’s moorland is ‘common land’ – managed and cared for by many farmers and organisations and accessed by millions. These upland commons are crucial for England’s rural cultures and natural ecosystems, yet are often poorly understood. What does it take to care well for them? How might farming and nature recovery plans help these areas thrive, and fulfil their potential for nature recovery, natural flood management, and helping rural communities to thrive?
In this exhibition, explore stories from the UK’s commons collected over two years during the nationwide Our Upland commons project. Discover photography, film, prose and poetry by Rob Fraser and Harriet Fraser (somewhere nowhere), and learn from people involved in upland farming, wildlife conservation, habitat restoration and land management in the commons of the Yorkshire Dales, the Lake District, the Shropshire Hills and Dartmoor.
