July heralds the return of 5thFrame!

After an absence from the local scene, urban jazz quintet 5thFrame are back playing hard bop.

Formed twenty years ago, the current quintet comprises founding members Paul McCarten – keyboards and Leslie Kett – trumpet, flugel & hand percussion, plus Danny Reuben – tenor, soprano sax, bass clarinet & flute (ex Brand New Heavies and Kirsty McCall). Howard King – double & electric bass. Mike Goff – drums

Paul McCarten(piano/keyboards)

“Since as early as I can remember, it’s always been jazz piano which has drawn me towards music – from the rhythmic bases of Albert Ammons to the more eclectic Bill Evans. My development has followed the tradition in chronological order – although totally unplanned. Two players who, for me best combine all this history are the incredible Art Tatum and Oscar, both have complete command of the piano and are my main two sources of inspiration…”

Leslie Kett(trumpet/percussion)

Dance and r&b “tifo” whose musical path started in the blues, slipped into soul, reggae and soca before returning from a musical sabbatical found him in the jazz groove. “it’s (sic) got to connect with your hips first and your head will follow.”

Plus! David Crocker spinning the vinyl for Universal Records before, in between and after the band til 11.00pm.

Please note, this evening is an earlier start at 7.30pm, with the band on around 8.30pm. Get there early to enjoy the records & reserve your table.
