BBC Introducing: Cameron Hayes / CECIL / Kah'Nya
Alex West and Nicky Booty from BBC Introducing Berkshire highlight upcoming local artists, giving you the chance to see the hottest new music in Berkshire. And this is the last ever BBC Introducing night, so let's give it the biggest send-off we can!
Kah'Nya opens, playing her first gig after moving to Reading from Zimbabwe. Her music is brutally honest soft-pop, with a maturity beyond her years. A singer-songwriter with massive potential!
Next up, CECIL. A stalwart of the local scene, CECIL has headlined BBC Introducing shows in the past and performed at several local festivals, while supporting the likes of Grace Jones, Clean Bandit, Tom Odell, Razorlight, Gabrielle Aplin, and Jools Holland. Her angular off-pop style takes inspiration from Lana Del Rey.
Finally, our Artist In Residence for June 2023, Cameron Hayes, takes to the stage. Cameron has a mix of influences from the Ashnikko, Oliver Tree, and Grandson, to Upsahl and Pixies. After writing and featuring on some massive DnB tracks by Dimension and Sub Focus which have been played on Radio 1 and streamed millions of times, Cameron has now been building her audience on TikTok, where she has nearly 3m likes and 142.9k followers. She describes her style as "bassy guitar music with haunting lyrics."
