Casual House Attendants - The Hexagon

As part of Reading Arts and Venues, The Hexagon theatre is looking to recruit new team members ahead of our busy 2023/24 season. The search is on for Casual House Attendants to compliment the current Front of House team.

About the role

As a House Attendant, you will ensure the safety of our audiences and be ready to take action if necessary. You will assist our Usher team in monitoring audience behaviour during an event to deter disruption and dangerous occurrences, as well as supporting the Hospitality department when needed.

Working patterns vary dependant on the show type and programming schedule. Shifts usually fall between 8.00am and Midnight. Most involve evening work and usually start at either 4.00pm or 6.00pm with occasional day shifts for matinees and children’s shows as well as general maintenance.

Rotas are issued 4 weeks in advance around the requirements of theatre events and the availability of casual employees.

Role responsibilities include:

  • Stage Door cover
  • Unlocking and locking up the venue
  • Maintaining theatre facilities
  • Carrying out routine maintenance to theatre seating and FOH equipment.
  • Acting as the first point of contact for customers on arrival at the theatre
  • Maintaining a low-key security presence
  • Providing information regarding performances and facilities
  • Selling programmes and merchandise
  • Assisting customers with access needs
  • Changing theatre layouts to suit the upcoming events

You must be at least 18 years of age due to the nature and content of some performances e.g. comedians.

About you

The position would suit anyone who enjoys a social role, is confident yet sympathetic in dealing with difficult situations, and is passionate about delivering outstanding customer service with a smile. Theatre staff must have the ability to work well under pressure as well as a pro-active and outgoing manner.

Previous experience in a similar role is preferred but not essential as full training will be provided.
