We are hosting an evening of 'Reading in the time of Thomas Cromwell' with guest speakers.
Reading University's Ralph Houlbrooke, historian of Tudor England and Emeritus Professor of Early Modern History, will be taking us back to Tudor England to discuss power, politics, and the Cromwell age.
Joan Dils, renowned local history tutor and President of The History of Reading Society, will talk about Reading in the 1540s and 1550s. Joan's new book Reading: A History will be available for her to sign.
John Painter, author of Reading Abbey and the Abbey Quarter, will talk about Reading Abbey in the time of Thomas Cromwell. Peter Durrant, co-author of the book will also be on hand to answer questions. Reading Abbey and the Abbey Quarter will be available for John and Peter to sign.
Each talk will be followed by a short Q&A.
The evening will be chaired by one of our booksellers who will relate the discussion to Hilary Mantel's fabulous Wolf Hall, Bring Up The Bodies and The Mirror and the Light.
