CANCELLED: Puppetry & object personification: exploring puppetry as queer medium.

Sun 2 Jul, 14:00-17:00

Unfortunately, this workshop has had to be cancelled due to unforeseen circumstances. We hope to welcome Georgina into the centre at some point in the future.

Puppet-making workshop with artist Georgina Dayanc (they/them)

Fancy learning about puppets and puppetry as an artistic medium to explore queerness? Want to try making a puppet character yourself? Ever wondered what objects could be classified as puppets?

Join this FREE puppet-making workshop at RSAC with artist Georgina Dayanc.

The workshop will be experimental in nature & explore puppet making and object personification broadly (using found materials) in relation to queer theories.

Participants will have chance to:

  • Learn about puppets (puppeteers and artists using this medium in various ways today to influence their work, and consider the contemporary puppeteers and artists that are using puppetry principles to explore, communicate & create queer narratives)
  • Make their own puppet characters/ personified objects.Using making as way to ponder the following questions: What stories or experiances do you wish to tell using puppetry and puppetry principles? What can be a puppet and why? what are the potentials of puppets in exploring and honoring queer experiences? (Prompts, quotes, examples and questions will be provided to help aid thinking through making)

Note: No making experience is required just an open mind, imagination and keenness to get involved in building characters that mean something to you

All making materials will be provided, however if you feel inclined to do so, please do bring your own scrap materials to use on the day, including any found materials, i.e., old fabrics, buttons, discarded cardboard etc.
