One of Reading’s oldest businesses, Reading Buses has been serving the town since 1901 and is still going strong! From trolleybuses to the fastest bus in the world, they have always been there to keep the community moving.
Have you ever wondered what happens behind the scenes at Reading Buses? Well now you can! They’re ‘virtually’ throwing open the doors of the company so you can sneak a peek at what they do behind closed doors.
Their annual charity open day was due to happen in June but had to be cancelled due to Covid-19. To make sure people do not miss out on getting a look behind the scenes, and hopefully raise some money for this year’s Reading Buses charity of the year, Sport in Mind, they’re holding a virtual open week instead on Reading Culture Live.
Take a look at the most popular bits from their open day including:
The bus wash – a ride through the wash is one of the favourite open day attractions. Take a look at how we keep our buses squeaky clean and use rainwater, and recycled water, to help the environment
The control room – a look behind the scenes to see how they keep buses on time and how keep Reading moving
The engineering workshop tour – see the engine of a bus and view the ‘station in the sky’ – the gas station up in the air which helps compress the gas to fill compressed natural gas (CNG) buses.
The buses – a line-up of Reading’s multi-coloured buses.
If you enjoy the videos as well as seeing some of the 21st century techniques that help keep Reading on the move, you can donate £2 by texting SIM 2 to 70085. All money raised will go to Sport in Mind, the sports mental health charity.
Reading Buses hope to see you all in person at their Open Day 2021!
