Christmas Extravaganza

Magical Christmas in Reading - Broad Street & Abbey Ruins

Sat 30 Nov, 12:00 - 18:00

Thrills, spills, sparkles and fun in a magical setting – that’s the mighty Christmas Extravaganza on Saturday, November 30 (12-6pm).

A crammed Santa-sack of events set in the stunning Abbey Ruins culminate in fireworks sent fizzing skyward from the top of The Blade skyscraper. It’s the town at its magical best!

Events are packed in from noon until 6pm and there’s something for everyone, whatever age.

Take a trip on a River Tales storytelling cruise from the Abbey to the Oracle (book your slot online), or listen to Celestial Sound Cloud by Pif Paf, a beautiful digital sound and light installation hung from the trees in Chestnut Walk. While you’re there pick up a bite to eat from the food stalls (including Eat Genbu) and a drink from The Grumpy Goat

The haunting Abbey Ruins host upbeat dance band Limpopo Groove, then Avenue, an a cappella group from Twyford. Next it’s English guitarist Craig Sutton, formerly the Flamenco Thief, who’ll mesmerise with his fast melodies, followed by Dat Brass, a high octane ten-piece brass outfit.

Blues songstress Ma Bessie will warm you up with her soulful tunes before a schools’ choir with lyrical voices from various Reading schools enchant.

The afternoon events will be compered by BBC Berkshire presenter Michelle Jordan.

Exciting acts Izzy Thomas, Jen Merchent and Terry Franks will also perform on Broad Street during the day so wherever you are you’ll get your festive on! Hilary this has been added to your blurb

At 5.30pm look skywards to The Blade for a dazzling spectacle as fireworks burst above the town set to thrilling music and ending a magnificently magical day.

Please be aware that this is an outdoor event therefore open to the elements.

Only alcohol purchased via The Grumpy Goat will be allowed on site. No glass allowed on site. Bag searches will be in operation.
