Join us at the Museum throughout the half term for different activities, including:
By Royal Appointment
Monday 30th May
Design a Huntley & Palmers biscuit tin fit for royalty! Use our template and decorate your biscuit tin to make it fit for a King or Queen.
This session will take place in our Earley Charity Room at the Museum.

Jubilee Party Hats
Tuesday 31st May
Get creative using our resources and make your own fancy hat to wear for a royally good time at a Jubilee party!
Families, £1. Drop in or book on the day at reception.
Victorian Schoolroom Experience at the Abbey Gateway
Wednesday 1st June
Meet a Victorian schoolteacher and re-learn the ‘3Rs’. A 45-minute experience for adults and children over five in our unique Victorian classroom in the historic Abbey Gateway. Please note that the Gateway has no step-free access and there are uneven steps and floors.
Ages 5+. Join us at 11.30 am, 1.15 pm, or 2.30 pm (meeting at the Abbey Gateway). £1 per person.
Book in advance or pay on the day. Please note: there is a maximum of 35 places per session.
Biscuits Weekend with Museums Partnership Reading
28th and 29th May
Join Reading Museum and The Museum of English Rural Life (The MERL) as Museums Partnership Reading celebrates 200 years since the beginnings of Huntley & Palmers and Reading's history as the Biscuit Town.
Celebrate National Biscuit Day with a range of hands-on activities for all the family, inspired by the amazing Huntley & Palmers collections across our town. The programme includes a hands-on introduction to biscuit art with design historian and artist Dr Ella Hawkins, and we’ll also be launching our new Biscuit Town Family Activity Pack at both museums.

Workshop: Paint your own biscuits
Saturday 28th May, 1 pm and 2.30 pm at Reading Museum
Sunday 29th May, 10.00 am and 11.30 am at The MERL
It's National Biscuit Day on 29th May! To celebrate in style, join design historian and artist Dr Ella Hawkins for a hands-on introduction to biscuit art. Learn how to paint colourful designs onto iced biscuits, inspired by our Huntley & Palmers original collections, and take your edible art home to enjoy.
Prior to the workshop, there will be a chance to look at our special exhibition (The MERL), the Huntley & Palmers gallery (Reading Museum) and some of our collections close-up.
£5, suitable for adults and children aged 8+. Workshop lasts 1.5 hours including 30 minutes to explore collections first. Booking links coming soon!

Biscuit Town Family Activity Pack
From 28th May until September
This pack is full of things to do at Reading Museum, The MERL, and at home, including colouring sheets, gallery trails, crafts, recipes, and more.
£3 per pack, suitable for children aged 5+. Pick up your copy at Reading Museum or The MERL.
Bertie’s Brilliant Biscuit Design
Saturday 28th May, 10 am to 4 pm
Help Bertie our biscuit-loving Badger to come up with an amazing new biscuit design, inspired by the imaginative biscuits and biscuit tins in our Huntley & Palmers Gallery. We will showcase our favourites on the framed picture wall in our Welcome Gallery!
£1, suitable for all ages. Booking not required, simply drop in to the Museum.
