A Winter Haunt
Shadows of Reading
5 Dec 2019-6 Dec 2019
Returning for its 5th year, A Winter Haunt - Shadows between the shelves is a piece of immersive theatre written around and staged in Battle Library.
The performers are staff, pupils and friends of Theale Green School, and usually some members of Reading Libraries staff.
Most of the characters are drawn from Reading’s past, and some have direct links with the Library itself.
I'm trying to avoid spoilers but the characters from this years production include the Maiwand Lion, down from his plinth in the Forbury Gardens to tell his story, John Pordage, a wild eyed mystic and alchemist who was at one time curate of St Laurence’s Church in Town, and Frances Kendrick, who, in the 18th Century is said to have challenged here future husband to a duel before she’d marry him (and who may or may not haunt the Mansion House in Prospect Park).
Shadows of Reading will be running on 5th and 6th December, and you can get tickets from Battle Library, Central Library and Theale Green School.
