The Shiny Shrimps (Les crevettes pailletées) (15)
Matthias Le Goff, an Olympic champion at the end of his career, makes a homophobic remark on TV. His punishment is coaching the Shiny Shrimps, an amateur, flamboyant and gay water-polo team who dream of qualifying at the Gay Games in Croatia against the best international LGBT athletes. In this story cliches are witty enough to fit an hilarious situation. This film took me by surprise with its poignant emotion, its genuine performance, the actors’ natural talent, the art of confronting prejudices on both sides and the most unexpected ending.
It’s the Full Monty for its resilience, and Priscilla the Queen of Desert for its enthusiasm.
