Stand Up Comedy in Reading is back. Mates Rates Comedy is proud to present Comedy at Turtle with Headliner Yuriko Kotani.

Mates Rates Comedy has teamed up with The Purple Turtle to bring you the best acts from the UK comedy scene.

We will have TV names, up and coming circuit comics and as always, you will be guided along by our trusty MC Carl Richard.

The show takes place at The Purple Turtle on Friday 21 October between 7:30pm-9:30pm (doors open 7:00pm).

Yuriko Kotani

Yuriko began performing stand-up in 2014. she was named as "One To Watch" by Time Out and won the BBC New Comedy Award in 2015.

In 2016, Yuriko appeared on series 2 of Russell Howard's Stand Up Central, BBC Three's Pls Like in 2017, CBBC's The Dog Ate My Homework in 2018 and Paul Hollywood Eats Japan on Channel 4 in 2020.

On radio, Yuriko was on The Comedy Club (BBC Radio 4 Extra) in 2016, BBC World Service's The Arts Hour International New Year Comedy Celebration in 2017, The Verb (BBC Radio 3) and Loose Ends (BBC Radio 4) in 2018.

She also worked with the Foreign & Commonwealth Office to make videos for Rugby World Cup 2019, detailing her top tips for fans travelling to Japan.

Joe Jacobs is a London based comedian, rapper and writer. His live shows effortlessly flit between hip hop and comedy and he’s been seen/heard on Channel 4, BBC Radio 4, BBC 6 Music, Radio 1XTRA, plus gained millions of viral video views online.

On the live circuit, he’s a regular at The Comedy Store, Top Secret, Glee, Up The Creek, Backyard Comedy Club, Covent Garden Comedy Club, Knock2Bag, Downstairs At The Kings Head, Banana Cabaret, The Distraction Club and many others.

He has provided tour support for acts such as Jamali Maddix, Dane Baptiste and even opened for Bill Burr at The Comedy Store in Hollywood.

Dani Johns
