People’s title at stake in Reading
ALL STAR, Europe’s longest running wrestling promotion has selected The Hexagon in Reading as the venue for one of the first defences of a new ‘People’s Champion’ title that has been introduced to mark the start of its 50th anniversary year. Wirral-based favourite Dean Allmark will be the man stepping forward on Saturday 18 January to challenge Niwa, the Maori Warrior from New Zealand who controversially emerged late last year as the winner of an eight man event to decide the first title holder.
Allmark, well-known for turning out top future contenders from the All Star Training School, now at a new base in Bromborough, Wirral, was thought by many fans to have been robbed of the chance to progress in the tournament at Gravesend when referee Phil Powers failed to see Niwa use the ropes to gain the deciding fall - and later it was the unpopular ‘third man’ who gave a casting vote to settle the final four corners elimination match that made Niwa the first ‘People’s Champion.’
The emphasis will surely be on gritty action as Devon-based Superslam Championship holder Oliver Grey, not long returned from a lengthy spell in Japan, takes on Finland’s ever unruly ‘Nasty Boy’ Vitto Puro in a top solo contest during the programme starting at 6pm, while another matching pits masked Mexican globetrotter the ‘Flying Eagle’ against North East hard man ‘Screwface’ Anderson.
Another evening highlight will be a mixed tag team clash when Continental campaigners the ‘Belgian Bull’ Lord Robin, partnered as always by Germany-born Lady Lori, are opposed by a new home combination of the 22 year-old Essex contender Danny Duggan who has spent time in the United States, Spain and Germany during the past 18 months and now joins forces with the stunning Mariah May who campaigns as ‘Miss London’ and quickly made her mark with fans after a professional ring debut in February last year.
V.I.P. Meet and Greet packages are available on the night and if you are celebrating a birthday then this is the place to be.
Special family-friendly tickets – the best value anywhere in the country - are now on sale.
