Harry didn’t know what was wrong with people, they just wanted to hang around with kids that were cool. What wasn’t cool about The Canteen Kid? All the canteen staff liked him…

Joyous, moving and thought-provoking, When This Is Over is a play written by Karen Wallace-Jones, created by the Make/Sense Theatre Young Performance Collective and supported by Reading Rep Theatre.  An anthology of life stories taken from one to one interviews and socially distanced exercises, this company of ambitious young actors (aged 16-24), bravely share their life moments and hopes for the future with the common experience of being a neurodivergent person navigating a neurotypical world. Some are hilarious, some extraordinary, and some, at times, almost too uncomfortable to hear.

When This is Over began on Zoom in February of 2021 when Make/Sense Theatre’s Young Performance Collective was one of 16 UK youth companies lucky enough to work with Company Three, a leading force for change for teenagers in North London. Having been given a creative framework by Company Three, Make/Sense Theatre helped create a blueprint for a play where young people can tell the stories of their past, present and future.  This blueprint is now available through Nick Hern Books for youth companies worldwide to create their own version from.
