The Great Big Vent Event

in aid of The Rising Sun

Sat 22 Jan, doors 6pm

Doors at 6pm

Put the pizazz into 2022 and stomp on those winter blues…We have for you, a sparkling evening of music and jolliment from local musical legends:

The evening aims to raise £1000 for the Rising Sun Arts Centre’s ventilation system appeal with any excess money going to the Berkshire Cancer Centre.

The Rising Sun Arts Centre has long been the place to go for originality, creativity and inclusivity, supporting local artists, musicians and the community as a whole. £10 of the ticket price for this event will be donated to the centre to help pay for the new ventilation system, sound equipment and lighting.

Once our target is met, excess funds will go to the amazing Berkshire Cancer Centre based at the Royal Berkshire Hospital which provides chemotherapy, radiotherapy, palliative care and the Macmillan information centre for people across Berkshire and South Oxfordshire.

Captain Batgirl (7.15-7.45 STUDIO STAGE)
From the shores of Falmouth (and East Reading!), the celebrated pirate, Captain Batgirl, comes to entertain us with an array of silly science songs. Prepare to be entertained and maybe even learn a thing or two about the crazy world of nature: from fungal frogs to wayward hamsters! Educational, daft, and wholesome – this is not one to miss!

The Pink Diamond Revue (7.45-8.30 MAIN STAGE)
It’s fair to say that these guys are unique and once seen, never forgotten. Eccentric? Positively! Captivating? Affirmative! Enjoyable? Definitely!

It’s fair to say that The Pink Diamond Revue an electro-amalgam of 1987-89 ‘Music For The Masses’ era Depeche Mode; the electro-psych vibe of TVAM; ‘Peter Gunn’ flavour Art Of Noise; the sound and poses of Sigue Sigue Sputnik and lashings and lashings of Sheep On Drugs imagery and sounds that the likes of Marc Almond would adore.

The Pink Diamond Revue line-up consists of two contrasting guys fronted by the top half of a female mannequin known as AciD dol, that they may or may not be obsessed with!

Daughter of the Water (8.30-9.00 STUDIO STAGE)
"Daughter of the Water is a magical world weaved in reflections and gently rocking waves wrapped in banjo swells and ethereal vocals" - Hilary @ folksong.co.uk

Sarah (Desdemona, The Jettes, Dolly & the Clothespegs) with her fairy folk songs tell stories of love from the river to the sea. With the mischievous sprite Thom Richards on acoustic guitar.

This event also marks the launch of DAUGHTER OF THE WATER'S E.P. "Feolin". 3 time travelling songs recorded at SoundofJura Studio in the Southern Hebrides, on a sunny day in September.

Dolly and the Clothespegs (9.00-9.45 MAIN STAGE)
Dolly and the Clothespegs are something of a Reading institution; hailin’ from the Kennet delta, this floor stompin’ bunch of ole timey, knees-up, hillbilly rascals are doing a few of their classics but then they will magically morph a bit punkways and rocktastic for this gig - meet Polly and the Binbags!

Damien A Passmore (9.45-10.15 STUDIO STAGE)
Damien A. Passmore has been entertaining audiences in Reading and beyond for 20 years. His tongue-in-cheek take on country music owes as much to Spinal Tap and Tenacious D as it does to Garth Brooks and the Eagles, with songs about truck drivers, roadkill cuisine, the joys of getting older and some unlikely relationships! Whether he's playing solo or with his band the Loveable Fraudsters, you're in for a toe-tapping, side-splitting treat!

The Mark II (10.15-11.00 MAIN STAGE)
7-piece soul band blasting out soul / Motown / Northern classics to dance the night away to.

Otis Redding…Wilson Pickett…The Temptations…Frank Wilson… Sam Cooke…Martha & The Vandellas…Gloria Jones… Jackie Wilson… James Brown… Stevie Wonder… Marvin Gaye…Gene Chandler… Sam & Dave… Judy Street… Al Wilson… Eddie Floyd… Bobby Hebb… all that and more!

Don your sharpest suit, embrace your bouffant and feed your soul with Reading’s own soul phenomenon.
