With Sonia Brown

Hello lovely visitor, I’m Sonia! Having grown up in Reading, I love being involved in the local dance community, teaching weekly as a freelance practitioner for different schools, assisting the production of Dance Reading and Thatcham Festival, alongside running my own weekly dance classes for adults.

My professional training includes a two-year foundation degree at Bird College Conservatoire of Dance and Musical Theatre in Sidcup, and a BA (Hons) in Musical Theatre at Trinity Laban Conservatoire of Music and Dance in Greenwich. I am a certified Silver Swans® Licensee and am currently studying a Masters Degree in Education (Dance Teaching) at the Royal Academy of Dance.

After graduating Trinity Laban, I performed as a musical theatre performer. This included touring Spain in a solo performance, performing at the Edinburgh Fringe and working with local Reading-based theatre company ‘Beautiful Creatures’. My performance background has carried through into my teaching style - I’m often asked ‘where do I get all my energy?’

My aim is for my students to feel fantastic after class. Dance has numerous physical benefits, but also can have a profound impact on wellbeing. It’s lovely to see social groups form and dancers gaining confidence. Every class is an opportunity for my students to perform for themselves, feel good and most of all have fun.
