Spring Concert - POSTPONED

Haydn's Creation - NOW POSTPONED TILL THE AUTUMN - planned for Nov 21st

THIS CONCERT WILL NOW BE HELD IN THE AUTUMN - currently planned for Nov 21st.  This year is one of double celebrations for the Reading Haydn Choir.  To honour that we'll perform Haydn’s wonderful, and best known, choral work, The Creation.  This work provides exceptionally joyous and uplifting music, both to sing and to hear. It was inspired by Handel's Messiah which it has almost equalled in popularity since its first performance in 1798.

Why double celebrations? First, it's the Choir's 50th birthday!  Secondly, Music Director Mandy Kesel and Accompanist Ian Westley took their roles 30 years ago, an achievement that has seen the choir go from strength to strength under their tutelage.

Furthermore, Mandy’s daughter, Antonia, leads the choir’s professional orchestra. We are especially honoured to have her, as she has recently been appointed Co-Leader of the London Mozart Players' 2nd violins, a huge honour for one so young.

Our soloists are: Luno Connolly, a finalist in the 2019 International Haydn Singing Competition in Austria and a winner of the Elena Gehardt Lieder Prize; Rob Johnston  who has been a member of the Tallis Scholars and The Sixteen.  Rob has now forged a very successful solo career; Edward Price who has sung with the BBC Singers, performed at The Proms and performed as a soloist on BBC Radio 3.
