Reading Balfolk

*Due to the coronavirus outbreak, all our events are cancelled till further notice.* Please do check back when the situation changes, or join our mailing list via our website. Hope to see you soon!

Reading Balfolk meet on the first Sunday of most months of the year, to dance European traditional and social dances to live music, provided by Shivelight Duo and friends. We begin with a workshop from a visiting teacher, then a bring-your-own picnic lunch, with tea and coffee provided; and then it's time for the 'bal'*! Dances include the waltz, schottische, mazurka, Breton dances, Chapelloise and Circassian Circle. No experience necessary, and no need to bring a partner. Just turn up!

*a 'bal' in French is a dance, which might be held in a town square or café; a more casual and sociable event than is suggested by the English term 'ball'.
