Alternative Christmas shopping in Reading
There's so much to see and do this Christmas in Reading, from all the fantastic events that make up Reading UK's Magical Christmas in Reading to a host of Festive Favourites from all over town.
But it's not just carols, concerts, gigs and activities that Reading offers up this Yuletide season. If you're looking for somewhere a little different to do a spot of Christmas shopping, check out our list of places and one-off events where you can find that special, unique gift.

The MERL
Tuesday – Friday 9am to 5pm
Saturday & Sunday – 10am to 5pm
The Museum of English Rural Life also offers shoppers the chance to buy unique gifts inspired by their collections - including Absolute Unit-inspired mint jelly. Their Christmas range offers up cards using images from the MERL and Special Collections as well as other cosy Christmas must-haves.

Reading Museum
Tuesday to Friday: 10am - 4pm
Saturday: 10am - 5pm
The Reading Musem shop showcases a range of unique gifts either reflecting Reading and the local area or inspired by the Museum's collection. And their Christmas collection is no exceptions, including Christmas tree ornaments inspired by their replica Bayeux Tapestry.

Reading Comic-Con
23rd-24th November
With loads of stalls selling comics, toys, gifts and all things geeky, this is great spot to find something for the sci-fi/fantasy fan in your life. Or get them something truly special with a personalised autograph from one of the many special guests from Dr. Who, Harry Potter, Once Upon A Time, Gladiators and more who are signing over the weekend.

Artline - Reading's Visual Arts Market
24th November
Organised by Jelly in partnership with Reading BID, Artline brings work created by local artists to Broad Street. View beautiful works include paintings, original photography, drawings, limited edition prints and hanging textiles. All of the works will be for sale, so you can buy direct from the artists on their stands and find out what inspires them.

Reading Etsy Made Local Christmas Market
30th November
Celebrate Reading's local makers and independent businesses at this fabulously festive Christmas market at St Laurence's Church on Friar Street. Perfect for Christmas shopping, there will be over 25 amazing stallholders with a huge array of handmade gifts, artwork, jewellery and much more! All local and all independent - and there will be 50 gift bags up for grabs on the day.

Christmas Book Market
30th November
The chance to purchase those Christmas bargains. Pre-loved and new books on family, local and social history, at prices to suit all purses, for the history lovers amongst your friends and family. It's organised by the Berkshire Family History Society, and new for this this year are 2020 Historic Reading calendars and Christmas cards.

Reading's Indie Urban (Christmas!) Market
1st December
Reading's Indie Urban Market has teamed up with Double Barrelled Brewery to host this Christmas extravaganza! There'll be over 30 stalls featuring some of Reading's best small, independent businesses, as well as food stalls and, of course, plenty of drink on tap. Bring the whole family - you can even bring the dog!
